Nationally, there are in excess of 10,000 kids per year who enroll in all our mentoring programs across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>Mentoring is about developing trust, building relationships, increased learning and exposing the children to opportunities that they might not otherwise be afforded.&nbsp; Aspects of each of these factors can be found and are present in everything that we do whether it\u2019s exposure to influential people, field trips, challenging science projects, or \u201cdown to earth\u201d honest advice. Exactly how much mentoring actually affects each individual person can be different; however, the impact can be far reaching and the benefits can span a life time.&nbsp; Each year we receive accolades from the schools, parents, and children.&nbsp; This affirms that our efforts are not in vain.<\/p>\n<p>A good example of this is when the former Secretary of State General Colin Powell made a visit to the Imagine 100 Academy of Excellence; he came at the request of one of his lifelong mentors and friend, a retired Brigadier General and member of our local 100 chapter. Due to their lifelong relationship, General Powell agreed to visit and speak to the kids in our schools and at a community forum. Needless to say, his visit was historic. The entire community turned out and shared in the event. It was attended by a wide spectrum of people including students, community leaders, entertainers, and politicians (like Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign). Mr. Powell took his time to carefully deliver a meaningful message. It was useful not only to the kids but to everyone in attendance.
