Wellness is a vital component of a thriving community<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/100blackmenlasvegas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/100-BMLV-Healthy-Activity-Bowling.jpg\" alt=\"100-BMLV-Healthy-Activity Bowling\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"281\" width=\"500\" title=\"100-BMLV-Healthy-Activity Bowling\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\" style=\"float:right;padding-left:3%;padding-bottom:3%;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The mission of the Health and Wellness Committee of the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas is to recommend, design, maintain programs, and foster collaborations with like-minded organizations to facilitate awareness of good health for chapter members and the community.<\/p>\n<p>The Health and Wellness Committee has developed plans for the year to accomplish the mission by including community programs as well as internal organizational initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>The 100 Black Men of Las Vegas is a sponsor and participating partner with the Las Vegas Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority\u2019s domestic violence prevention program- S.T.O.M.P- \u201cStanding Together Opposing Misuse of Power\u201d. The 100 Black Men of Las Vegas are strong supporters of this initiative to prevent domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p>The Health and Wellness Committee is committed to improving the health awareness and lifestyle of the members of the organization. The members of the organization have been informed of the Coronavirus- (COVID-19) pandemic and provided with the necessary information to remain safe and uninfected. This was one of the most aggressive healthcare initiatives that the 100 had taken on. This was a multi-language campaign targeting Parents, Child Care Centers, and Vaccine for Children Providers in 18 identified zip codes. This campaign was a joint collaboration between the United Way, Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD), and the 100 to help increase the overall immunization rate with special emphasis on children 0-3 years old. In the 2009-2010 Shots 4 Tots Program Year, we were able to administer approximately fourteen thousand (14,000) immunizations. During this same timeframe, the State of Nevada moved from 47th in the nation in immunizations to 42nd. This program was part of the reason for this dynamic change. As a result of that success, United Way and SNHD teamed up with us for a second year. The 100 Black Men of Las Vegas are strong supporters of this initiative to prevent domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p>The Health and Wellness Committee is committed to improving the health awareness and lifestyle of the members of the organization. The members of the organization have been informed of the Coronavirus- (COVID-19) pandemic and provided with the necessary information to remain safe and uninfected. In addition to specific health topics such as; cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, obesity and prostate disease, the membership is informed of other health and lifestyle measures to improve the life of the black male.<\/p>\n<p>The Health and Wellness Committee will be seeking collaborations with other organizations for programs designed to improve the health of the community.<\/p>\n<p>The Health and Wellness Committee will be developing topics for discussion to incorporate into the 100 mentoring programs including- Teen Talk, mentoring in the schools, Juvenile Justice and Rites of Passage.<\/p>\n<p>Since good health is your wealth, the Health and Wellness Committee wants to help with your \u201cwealth development\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>INCREASE AWARENESS<\/h5>\t\t\n\t\t\t<p>Regarding health issues which disproportionately impact minorities and the minority community.<\/p>\n<h5>EXPAND KNOWLEDGE<\/h5>\t\t\n\t\t\t<p>Within all the communities we serve regarding current research, therapies and practices which have demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of illnesses.<\/p>\n<h5>SHAPE PUBLIC POLICY<\/h5>\t\t\n\t\t\t<p>Regarding the local, state, and national health policy issues impacting low-income and minority communities.<\/p>\n\t<h3>Recent collaborations and sponsored events include:<\/h3>\n\t<ul>\n<li>Healthy Hearts<\/li>\n<li>Community for Better Health<\/li>\n<li>Choose and Move<\/li>\n<li>Black Nurses Association<\/li>\n<li>The Links<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<ul>\n<li>Nevada Cancer Institute<\/li>\n<li>State of Nevada Health District<\/li>\n<li>Southern Nevada Health District<\/li>\n<li>Dept. of Health &amp; Human Services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<ul>\n<li>Nathan Adelson Hospice<\/li>\n<li>American Stroke Association<\/li>\n<li>American Heart Association<\/li>\n<li>United Way<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<strong>Major Initiative<\/strong><br \/>\nOne of our signature programs in the health and wellness area was Shots 4 Tots. This was one of the most aggressive healthcare initiatives that the 100 had taken on. This was a multi-language campaign targeting Parents, Child Care Centers, and Vaccine for Children Providers in 18 identified zip codes. This campaign was a joint collaboration between the United Way, Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD), and the 100 to help increase the overall immunization rate with special emphasis on children 0-3 years old. In the 2009-2010 Shots 4 Tots Program Year, we were able to administer approximately fourteen thousand (14,000) immunizations. During this same timeframe, the State of Nevada moved from 47th in the nation in immunizations to 42nd. This program was part of the reason for this dynamic change. As a result of that success, United Way and SNHD teamed up with us for a second year.
